As written on the website of Chinese American Heritage Foundation, the mission is to “Recognize, Appreciate, and Celebrate” the Chinese traditions and heritage. https://chineseparade.com/miss-chinatown-pageant/
Miss Chinatown USA started in 1958, bringing lovely, talented, intelligent Chinese American women throughout the United States to compete for the title. Created as a viable alternative for Chinese American women to participate and shine in pageants as women of color could not enter mainstream pageants due to racism. Now, 60 years later, Chinese American women throughout the United States are still coming to San Francisco during Chinese New Year to compete for scholarships and prizes in the annual Miss Chinatown USA Pageant.

“Aspire to Inspire”- this is a value I hold tightly to and live by. Though a PNW native, I discovered my purpose of creating change in Boston by obtaining my Master in Business Administration (MBA) with a Social Impact concentration at Boston University, as well as interning at YW Boston (a nonprofit dedicated to racial and gender equity). As a lifelong advocate for social responsibility, this is where I learned how to formally champion my passions in social justice.
I entered pageants not knowing what to expect, but the experience and connections made ended up impacting every aspect of my life. The network is supportive, loving, and reignited my Chinese American pride- I attribute much of my professional and personal successes to these relationships.
My goal for Miss Chinese Boston is to change the definition of success and what it means to be Chinese American- how do we embrace modern styles of thinking while paying homage to our culture? Additionally, I hope we can strengthen and unite the Boston Chinese American Community through this program.

Born and raised in Seattle, I consider myself a 1.5 generation Chinese American. My parents are from Hong Kong and though I was born in America, I found myself always struggling with my identity and not ever feeling “Chinese enough” or “American enough”.
In 2015, I decided to participate in Miss Chinese Seattle as I wanted a way to further connect to my roots and to give back. I enjoy challenging beauty standards as the shortest winner of Miss Chinese Seattle with an untraditional talent. My philosophy is that I want to not only bring out the best in who you are, but help you discover your highest and most authentic self. This is also why I pursued a Master in Social Work (MSW) as I take this philosophy to the work I do with students within the community and in higher education.
I believe that pageants are not just about outer and inner beauty, but about confidence, challenging beauty/societal/gender standards, and being a voice/role model. Most importantly, this pageant is all about discovering and honoring your culture and heritage while serving your community. These are the reasons why I’m committed to this program and to your journey with Miss Chinese Boston!
